Softening the Tone for Refugees and Immigration for your Congregation

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

This is an interactive training series for Church Leadership. We will provide a 1-4 hr. interactive book signing that incorporates an introduction to refugees, immigration, and trauma. Part of the training is a personal narrative from a person who lived a lifetime of trauma due to living in a war-torn country. She survived a holocaust and we as refugees that came to the United States vis the Mohawk Valley Refugee Center in Utica NY. She also was a key witness in the war crimes tribunal. 

Afterr the brief lecture, we will break into groups to discuss the need to understand how trauma impacts individuals from countries disrupted by conflict.. The lecture will emphasize how empathy plays a role in understanding. There will be an introduction to Strenght Based Practice as part of congregational learning through scripture. Strategies for church leaders are a key component of this training. Leadership strategies to lead a congregation to sustainable change while helping improve outcomes for people coming to your congregation. 

Topics will include:

1. Overview of Finding Blessings in a Cursed Life

2. Brief questionnaire on topics that impact the workplace

3. Talking points for Understanding the plight of a refugee

4  Developing a congregational plan that incorporates an understanding of Trauma

5. Shaping a new model - How Leaders should lead.

6. Questions/Wrap Up
